We sent out a small Maggiolina to a fellow with a Ranger 4x4 but he later called and asked if he could put it on his VW Golf. We called the factory to ask what bars to use. Their answer, “…of course a small Maggiolina can go on a large car like that, he can even use a medium Maggiolina”… VW Golf, large? Must be a European thing. Anyway, Thule makes a special tower to attach their crossbars on the Golf and Jetta. We have also had quite a few people putting these tents on VW vans - kind of the like the now scarce Volkswagen poptop campers. I don't know, maybe it is because VW vans lend themselves to camping.
